Renaissance Park Hosts 3rd Annual

Toys for 'Lil' Troops Event

In 2010, The United States Veterans Corps reached out to Renaissance Park to become the major sponsor and site for an annual holiday event that would include a toy drive called “Toys for Lil’ Troops” for deployed parents' children and would honor the service and dedication of our troops. After two successful years, Renaissance Park is pleased to host this wonderful event again this year on Saturday, December 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With a lot of help from volunteers and additional sponsors, the event has been a huge success. Truck loads of toys have been delivered to Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, and this year, it is hopeful that another successful drive will be able to fulfill the wish lists for children that might not have Christmas without this toy drive.  As "Toys For 'Lil' Troops" has gotten bigger and better each year, thousands of people and children have enjoyed the event and participated in the toy drive. This year another military base has been added for toy delivery - Seymour Johnson - increasing the joy for hundreds of children with deployed parents across North Carolina.

Please help by bringing new unwrapped toys to the Renaissance Park Visitor Center now through Dec. 1st and make 2012 the best year yet for giving back to our troops and their families!  The day of the event, some of the fun featured includes:  carriage rides, food & refreshments, carolers, Smith Elementary Chorus performance, Belkie Bear, the Belk mascot, photos with Santa, train rides, military displays, USO NC exhibit, bouncy houses, Team Red Bull, NC State Dance Team, Miss Garner winners, a rock wall , military vehicle displays, prizes and giveaways .
